Welcome to our Staff Spotlight where we introduce our team who work to support ACHS International Members.
In this edition, we meet Mr Daniel Chen, International Coordinator at ACHS International.
1. Tell us about your journey with ACHSI, how long have you been working here?
I joined the ACHSI team in April 2021, which was during the COVID-19 lockdown period in NSW Australia.
At that time, there were a lot of new changes in the International Assessment scene, with limited travel, virtual/hybrid assessment process development and COVID restrictions just to name a few. I was fortunate to be involved in creating and developing new assessment processes and programs with the international team as we transitioned into a post-COVID world.
2. How does your role support ACHSI Members?
My role involves supporting our Members during their journey with us, particularly with regards to their accreditation and their check-ins with ACHSI. I also provide support to our organisations through coordinating the ACHSI Quality Partner program, to help improve the Member’s quality and patient safety.
3. What do you find most rewarding about working in the healthcare sector?
I really enjoy supporting our ACHSI Members and assessors during their accreditation events, and Quality Partner sessions. When our Member organisations embrace their ‘light bulb moments’ (moments of inspiration during assessments or Quality Partner sessions), it is a real joy to see. Equally rewarding, is seeing our Members showcase their quality improvement to the Australian and International Assessors, government authorities and their consumers, with each subsequent ACHSI accreditation cycle.
4. Describe an interesting project that you have worked on.
An interesting project that I have been involved with is developing a program to improve healthcare organisations technology for accreditation assessments.
5. What comes to mind when you think of healthcare quality improvement?
When I think of healthcare quality improvement, I believe it involves having the desire and means to implement continuous improvement of processes and systems for patient outcomes, and to assist healthcare professionals to improve their practices.
7. Which healthcare figure or organisation most inspires you?
I am particularly impressed with the World Health Organization (WHO) Health Data Hub and I am excited to see how they can keep using and sharing data to benefit different countries and their needs.
8. How do you practise self-care?
One aspect of self-care that I try to incorporate into my daily life, is to be thankful for one thing that I currently have, and to look forward to one positive thing tomorrow!
9. What healthcare topic most interests you?
At this current time, I am interested in Clinical Indicators and how Clinical Indicator data can assist international healthcare organisations in their quality improvement journey and improving patient outcomes.
Thank you, Daniel, for sharing your insights and experience with us.
We look forward to bringing you further Staff Spotlight articles in the future and showcasing the incredible talent that we foster at ACHSI.
